I’m an academic creative. Whether I’m writing books, recording podcast episodes, hosting webinars, or building courses, I love to create new things that help other academics and higher education professionals see their creative potential.
Basically, I’m an academic who creates things for other academics who want to create things.
When I’ve got my Clark Kent glasses on, I direct the Ecampus Research Unit at Oregon State University, where I spend my days making research actionable and sharing out original research on online teaching and learning best practices. For this work at Oregon State Ecampus, I also have the pleasure of hosting the “Research in Action” podcast.
The passion that’s driven my entire career, however, is about process and peeking behind the scenes at what it takes to be a successful academic. So, when my Clark Kent glasses come off, I also serve clients through Katie Linder Consulting, LLC, a side business that houses my speaking, coaching, consultation services, and creative projects. (Some of these current projects include the “You’ve Got This” podcast, “The Anatomy of a Book” podcast, and the how to: academia webinar series. Learn more about all my other projects here.)
I love writing and publishing. My latest published works include The Blended Course Design Workbook: A Practical Guide (Stylus, 2016) and the edited New Directions volume on Hybrid Teaching and Learning (Wiley, 2017). If you’re looking for something shorter, some of my recent articles can be found in Innovative Higher Education, the Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and Open Learning: The Journal of Open, Distance, and e-Learning. You are welcome to peruse my full CV.
Currently, I’m under contract for my third book on Managing Your Professional Identity Online; two edited collections on high impact practices in online learning and the business of innovating online (as part of my Oregon State Ecampus work); and I’m the editor of a forthcoming book series from Stylus Publishing on online teaching and learning.
When I visit other campuses, I usually speak on topics such as effective writing and publication practices, professional branding and self-promotion in higher education contexts, blended course design, and helping students learn in an age of digital distraction.
I also serve as associate editor for the International Journal for Academic Development where I manage the IJAD social media accounts.
