I am an academic creative. Whether I’m writing books, recording podcast episodes, hosting webinars, or building courses, I love to create new things that help other academics and higher education professionals see their creative potential. Basically, I’m an academic who creates things for other academics who want to create things. The latest example of this work is my online course SoTL by Design.
I practice radical self-trust. This means that I actively work on seeking self-knowledge, nurturing my superpowers, playfully experimenting, living my core values with intention, practicing loving kindness toward myself and others, and settling into my life’s purpose. I also help others to cultivate radical self-trust through individual and group coaching offerings.
I have a passion for process. My entire career has been driven by a love of process, systems, and peeking behind the scenes at what it takes to be a successful academic. I feed this passion through my research at Oregon State Ecampus and by serving clients through Katie Linder Consulting, LLC, a side business that houses my speaking, coaching, consultation services, and creative projects. (Some of my favorite creative projects focused on process include my podcasts and the how to: academia webinar series.)
I love writing and publishing. My latest published works include The Blended Course Design Workbook: A Practical Guide (Stylus, 2016) and the edited New Directions volume on Hybrid Teaching and Learning (Wiley, 2017). My book Managing Your Professional Identity Online is forthcoming in fall 2018. I have two edited collections on high-impact practices in online learning and the business of innovating online (as part of my Oregon State Ecampus work) releasing in 2018 and 2019 (respectively), and I’m the editor of a forthcoming book series from Stylus Publishing on online teaching and learning. My next book, Going Alt-Ac: A Guide to Alternative Academic Careers, co-authored with Kevin Kelly and Tom Tobin, is under contract for release in 2019.
When I visit other campuses, I usually speak on topics related to writing and publication; creativity and productivity; self-promotion and personal branding, and teaching and learning with technology.
